Successful project launch on MexWer

On February 9, scientists from TITK in Rudolstadt, GFE in Schmalkalden and ifw Jena met for the kick-off meeting in the MexWer project.

In the MexWer project, the research partners TITK, GFE and ifw Jena are working on the further development of material extrusion processes. From optimized design for MEX processes to sintering processes and effective post-processing validation, the complete process chain is being investigated.

The common goal is to increase resource efficiency and process sustainability in the processing of carbide and tool steel.

At the kick-off meeting, the scientists involved in the project at the individual institutes discussed the initial tasks and steps in the project. For example, a new type of binder system is to be developed at TITK, while work is being done at GFE to optimize the construction process. The construction process by means of material extrusion and the sintering processes themselves will be investigated at the facilities of ifw Jena.

All three project partners are also partners in the Thüringian Center for Mechanical Engineering. The project results should enable manufacturers to use material extrusion processes efficiently and exploit their advantages in the construction of innovative products and the processing of steels.

The project, which is supported by the Free State of Thuringia, is co-financed by funds from the European Social Fund (ESF) Plus.
